About Massage and Gentle Hands Therapy
What are some of the physical and mental benefits of massage?
- Helps relieve stress and aids in relaxation
- Improves circulation, which improves the flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells, and removes waste products
- Helps relieve muscle spasms
- Helps relieve tension headaches
- Promotes faster healing from injury
Will I have to get completely undressed?
Some of the healing modalities we use, such as Reiki, Touch for Health, Chair Massage, and TMJ relief techniques, do not require you to disrobe at all. Relaxation and many therapeutic techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed but professionally draped with a sheet. Only the body part being worked on is exposed. Your modesty is respected at all times.
What can I expect the day of my first massage therapy session?
It would be helpful for you to come early for your first session to fill out a client information form. We will discuss any concerns or questions that you may have at this time. You will be asked to undress in private and cover yourself with the sheet provided by your therapist. The therapist will then return to the room and your therapy session will begin. After your session, you will be allowed privacy to get dressed.
What do I do during the session?
Make your self comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or ask you to move as needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). This is your time and it may be more relaxing to just rest and close your eyes. Others like to talk during their session. The therapist may need to ask you questions so that you receive the most appropriate therapy. Please communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that the therapist can adjust the technique for you.
